Some times they're right

I'll be the first to tell you I don't take advice well. Especially unsolicited advice, but sometimes I also willfully ignore solicited advice, on account that I *clearly* know everything and am a grown up and don't need to be told that which I already know (or think I know).

But know what?

Sometimes they're right (they being the advice givers, who are usually somebody's parents). Sometimes they walk in and say- did you think about this, and what about that, and have you considered xyz.

That place in Queens doesn't allow people to install washer/dryers.

  1. wow. I realize that you're in a whole other location and all that, but still... Um, if you're BUYING it (not renting) I don't really see how that works. I don't really like any "rules" of that sort. In fact, I pretty much refuse to BUY anything that has some sort of list of things you can't do. (like everyone in this neighborhood must have THIS mailbox. Uh. Nope. Sorry.) So long as it's legal and you're not harming anyone, you ought to be able to do whatever you want with your own property. One of the reasons we bought our home...no homeowner's association. I don't want to have to get my neighborhood to approve if I decide to paint my house or something. What's the point of owning it if you can't do what you want?

Sorry. It's an old rant of mine.

  2. I am very poor at taking advice. Nor am I very good at giving it. I suppose I'm poor on both counts!
